Premium thermal paste - on the house!

For years now we have added a fresh high grade thermal pad for all purchase that need them or that might need them. And we don't use the term 'high grade' lightly. Our pads score an impressive 17W/mK which is unparalleled for 1mm thick, non-conductive pads. Some graphite pads edge ours out but are conductive and phase change pads also have an edge but are not available in 1mm thick. In addition, we've sold the defacto industry standard thermal paste, Arctic Silver 5. Customers need some paste in most cases because either the heatsink is shared with the CPU or high power cards have a dedicated heatsink and are constructed so that they have direct contact with the GPU core. So we've been looking for a way to add paste per default without breaking the bank. We could have added some generic, dirt cheap paste that probably does the trick. Kinda. More or less. Then again, what would be the point to add cheap paste while paying through our nose for the pads? Mixed message to say the least.

So we went for the best and we started with this article. Aside from an excellent source for TIM benchmarks it explains in detail how to apply your paste. And how not to. We suggest to read it front to back. A few times. Anyway, on other pages you'll find the pastes included by some eBay shops, we were only interested this page. We'd like to point your attention to the "T-C Grease 0098" which scored admirably. When checking the TIM Consultants website we found out they have a successor, Quantum, which is supposed to score 44% better. Not sure how they came to this metric or what it means exactly but we have translated it as 'pretty good stuff indeed'! We went ahead and bought this material in bulk, filling up the syringes ourselves which keeps the price low enough to include a tube with each purchase.

Did we mention it will be included free of charge?

HD5870 3.0 Type B card in stock - DX11

July 29th 2010

We can now offer the Crossfire variant of the HD5870, together with the cable if needed. Juicy stuff if you have a Clevo D900F, or perhaps an Alienware m17x R2

We offer these cards as simple COTS products for end users and professionals alike but also as customizable items. For high volume projects we can offer customization ranging from providing additional documentation, allowing BOM changes, making changes to layout and customizing the vBios.

Obviously, this comes at a price. Once you stray from the COTS path you enter the world of NRE fees.

Type II HD4670 1GB DDR2

July 29th 2010

We ran out of HD4650s, which is a bad thing. Good thing is its replacement is the HD4670. Even better: it comes at the same price! From what we can see, it is a full functional equivalent. We haven't updated all our links yet but if you use a link to buy a HD4650 you'll be getting a HD4670!

GTX480 Type B cards in stock!

July 29th 2010

I don't think we ever had a 100W TDP card. Or one with 2GB of GDDR5 or with 3 billion transistor count(yeah...) Well, now we do. Only thing is... it's not just the performance that blows you away. Prices do too... We know the card is compatible with a number of Clevo notebooks (and their various rebadged brethren).

Take a look here!

Type HE 9800 GTS 512MB cards in store

July 29th 2010

Well, let's be honest. The 9800 GTS never won any prices. It certainly looks the part but it falls well short of any of the big hitters, then and now even more.

Then why are we offering them? Because some notebook manufacturers overdid it a bit, delivering some pretty hot systems. Replacing a cooked card with one of these might take some of the thermal pressure away.

The card has already been tried on the Alienware m15x and should be fine in Clevo MXM machines too!

Pretty good bang-for-buck too!

Compal (I)FL90 upgraded to HD4650

July 29th 2010

We know Compal did some pretty funky things with the original 8600GT that came with this machine (all to save a few cents on a SPI flash) and after nuking a few cards to attempt to get other 8600GTs to work we all but gave up on this one. So when Jeff contacted us to get a HD4650 with our Beta program we didn't have high hopes.

Turns out we were part right in our skepticism and partially wrong. Besides an issue with the PCI bus throttling it works fine! We assume the throttling to be a fluke but that needs to be confirmed. But even throttled the HD4670 should be more powerful than the 8600GT.
